Welcome To The Northern Country

The only Mushroom site on the net net that goes above and behond in providing Morel Mushroom Hunting Information.

Welcome to Northern Country Morels of Michigan! This web site is dedicated to the Outdoors Enthusiast. Providing vital Morel Mushroom Hunting information to Morel Mushroom Hunters new and seasoned from all over. Generally this site will be relating to the Michigan Morel Season since this has been our home for the past 37 years. Nevertheless, the information provided on this site can be applied for any state. If you have come here to learn how, where, when and why to hunt these mysterious fungi called a morel, you have come to the right place. This web site goes above and beyond the other mushroom sites out there. In fact I have had many emails accusing me of giving away a bit too much information. The way I see it is, as long as I am not breaking the number 1 commandment of Morel Hunting which is...Never ask another hunter for his/her hunting spot or give out hunting spots, then I feel the information provided on this site isn't infringing on any Morel Hunters stomping grounds. (Maybe just increasing the competition a little) Now don't get me wrong, there are many great sites out there that speak of morels, but I have not found one yet that goes as far in depth as this site goes. There are many variations that affect morel growth such as rainfall, weather temperature and habitat. The information that will be provided on this sight will definitely help any Morel Hunter (even if you are a seasoned hunter); predict when the time will be right for the picking, locating and increasing your findings, recognize and identify morel habitat and be able to tell the false morel from the true morel. This site has helped many already. Check out what others are saying about this site.

Well after a long winters nap it appears that a hint of spring is in the air. The robins have returned for another renewal of life. Trees are beginning to bud and the temperatures are beginning to show us signs that our long waited, much anticipated, springtime craze is once again upon us. Yes folks! I am talking about the "2008" Morels Mushroom Season.

Now from the information I have been receiving, there are many states that have already begun with the "2008" Morel Season. There have been reports of yellows and greys found in the western potion of the US from Oregon & California all the way to the Southern states like Tennessee and Kentucky. They are slowly moving our way toward Ohio, Michigan & Wisconsin.

This is the time of year when we all begin our quest for information on the ever elusive Morel and what better place to look is here at Northern Country Morels.
